    Great.
    Looks like Isabella http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isabella_(grape)
    Is it really so?

Alas, no. It has to be one of the very few varieties that can withstand -30º.

It’s the only grape I’ve seen used in home-landscaping around here. For example: these are in my front yard.

Thank you – very impressive information.
Now i understand that EU is more bureaucratic structure than USSR was – what a stupid idea “Because it is a hybrid variety, cultivation for commercial wines in Europe is restricted by European Union regulation.”
The real reason is, probably, in EU wine-makers defense – this kind of grape is resistant to fungal diseases, therefore the wine is cheap.
Let the user make his own decision!

The only real benefit of EU membership is that EU-members wars are eliminated:)

Only time will tell, but acronyms have a long history of quality warmaking. Winemaking? We agree – better left to experts.

Absolutely right, only time will tell – acronyms prefer to forbid (using the regulation argument:)
As to experts, the nowdays practice in mass media forces me to hate all of them, except experts in wine drinking:)
            Have a good day.
